Circle of Light by Sandra Bierman

Our cover this issue is by Boulder-based artist Sandra Bierman, whose large-scale, figurative works have been displayed in galleries, permanent collections, and on many Nexus covers.

"My work comes spontaneously from my imagination," says Bierman, who eschews models and photographs in favor of an intuitive approach. "It is best if it (the canvas) guides me, not I guide it."In creating scenes that are "a celebration of life" Bierman continually experiments with technique and color. Her philosophy is simple: "The journey has been to get closer to the essence."
