Our
cover this issue, "Maybe Getting Wet,"
is by Lynne Loshbaugh (photo by Hawthorne Studio,
Sante Fe, NM). Born in San Francisco and raised
in the Bay Area, Loshbaugh married a fellow California
and began painting when their children were in school.
Her goal in painting, she says, "is to celebrate
the off-center, to shake the tree on which are hung
our 'givens.'"
Her paintings are narrative; the medium is acrylic,
with some ideas expressed in additional media.
She finds inspiration in the primitive arts, describing
her style as "folk-related fantasy."
She says, "Accurate perspective and proportion
are not as important to me as rhythm, balance, magic.
But my greatest joy is in color - I am happiest
when I can stand back from painting and hear the
colors sing."
She currently lives in Sante Fe. Her work
can be seen at Hahn Ross Gallery, 409 Canyon Rd.,
Sante Fe; 505-984-8434
