Massaging the web

There are hundreds of different types of bodywork from which to choose. How can you tell which one is right for you? Get a head start with these great web sites. Each one generally includes a list of practitioners, information about specific modalities, and on-line access to products and services. This is by no means a comprehensive list of web sites, but it's a great start. For a comprehensive list of practitioners, including their telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and levels of training, contact The International Association of Healthcare Practitioners (IAHP) at 800-233-5880 or www.iahp.com and ask for a directory listing.

acupressure.org
This comprehensive site is a compilation of information from various acupressure practitioners. It explains the difference between acupuncture and acupressure, and includes a reading list as well as case history results.

amtamassage.org 
This site is run by the American Massage Therapy Association, representing more than 40,000 massage therapist in 30 countries. It offers a massage therapist locator, plus a full range of services, from information about massage to the on-line Massage Therapy Journal and Index. If you're interested in becoming a massage therapist, this site is a must, with its lists of schools, tips to becoming a good therapist and on-line application for AMTA membership.

Is Network Spinal Manipulation right for you? You can find out here. The Association for Network Chiropractic operates this site with the founder of Network Chiropractic, Donald Epstein, D.C. Epstein says he places great importance on research, and uses the web to share the results with the world. This site also offers an in-depth description of network techniques, along with lists of practitioners.

The International Chiropractors Association, founded in 1926, runs chiropractic.org. They offer basic information on chiropractic work along with a "find a chiropractor" section. They also offer insight into what it takes to become a chiropractor. This politically involved organization also keeps you posted on what is happening in Washington with its Congressional Action Center.

This site includes detailed information about reflexology and its history, as well as lists of practitioners and an enormous number of links to other local and international reflexology organizations.

reiki.com
This site offers an in-depth look into all aspects of Reiki, along with information about becoming a Reiki master. It also includes inspirational thoughts for the day, as well as on-line shopping, and includes a special section called "Living Beyond Cancer."

rolf.org
The Rolf Institute, located in Boulder, hosts this site. It provides a detailed explanation of Rolfing and its history, as well as information on choosing a practitioner, and class schedules and topics for students.

therapeutictouch.com
This site contains information on Therapeutic Touch, as well as details on a drugless migraine control program, therapies for nausea and facts on drugless pain relief. The site includes a full list of classes and other tidbits of information about Therapeutic Touch.

upledger.com
This site is a comprehensive collection of information on craniosacral therapy (CST), with everything from information to study groups on-line to help in finding a practitioner. It's a must-visit site for anyone interested in becoming a craniosacral therapist.

This site belongs to the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association. Besides general information on aquatic bodywork and lists of classes and practitioners, this site includes the 1999 Worldwide Logbook that all students of aquatic bodywork use to record courses and practice sessions and some of the new moves.
