Supergerms in children increasing

A bacterium called methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is becoming resistant to antibiotics; in addition to causing necrotizing fasciitis, a rare infection that’s also called "flesh-eating bacteria,” MRSA may also be a cause of some cases of pneumonia. While the bacterium is relatively rare, it underscores concerns over the “crisis of antibiotic resistance,” says Dr. Joseph R. Dalovisio, president of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. “There simply aren't enough new drugs in the pharmaceutical pipeline to keep pace with the evolution of drug-resistant bacteria, the so-called Œsuperbugs.’”
